Project: Ebook Design System Integration

Role: Independent UX/UI Designer

The Challenge
I redesigned ebook content elements (headers, boxed content, reference materials) during a platform migration and design system overhaul. The elements had become sprawling and inconsistent, with too many variations creating poor user experience.
The designs needed to work for both publisher-created and instructor-created content, align with a new design system, maintain brand identity, and support gradual migration of existing materials. All of this needed to happen while three major intersecting initiatives (platform migration, design system redesign, content standardization) happened simultaneously.
The Work
I independently explored multiple design directions, led stakeholder presentations and critiques, and managed alignment across product, engineering, and editorial teams with competing priorities.
The Solution
I delivered simplified content elements: clean headers, two consolidated boxed content treatments, and three streamlined reference elements (Key Terms, Notes, Extended Descriptions) that replaced the previous fragmented system.
Impact
I successfully balanced competing stakeholder needs during parallel initiatives. Managed the complete design cycle independently—from exploration through stakeholder presentation—without lead support. Designs are currently in production.
